Chesterville, Mississippi is a small city just outside of Tupelo within Pontotoc County that has a population of 29,448 people.
The history of Chesterville goes back to the earliest settlements in 1830 and the city was incorporated in 1876. It was through the pioneers Tom Shelton, Matt Buggs and James Wiley that people from South Carolina and Georgia started to learn about how desirable this area of Mississippi was, and throughout the middle of the 19th century more and more settlers came to the northeastern region of Mississippi.
Today, Chesterville remains a quaint suburb of Tupelo where many people live comfortably within the humid subtropical climate of the Deep South. Although it is a rather small city, the quality of life is very high in this region of the United States.

One of the best nature experiences in all of Mississippi is right down the road from Chesterville at the Tombigbee State Park. It’s here that you can go camping, hiking, canoeing, boating, swimming and have picnics out in the beautiful Mississippi weather. There are also cabins that you can rent out here if you want to stay the night by the lake but don’t want to camp, so no matter what your expertise is out in the wilderness this is definitely a spot that’s worth checking out and bringing your friends and family along for beautiful spring and summer outings.

The crime rate is undecipherable for Chesterville, but in nearby Tupelo, which incorporates Chesterville, the crime rate is pretty favorable as compared to the majority of the state and even the entire country. Violent crimes are very rare in this region with .62 per 1,000 residents being a victim, but property crime is a bigger problem with 20.32 per 1,000 residents falling victim in Chesterville and its surrounding area. This statistic in property crime is still much lower than Mississippi’s state average of 28.34 per 1,000 residents.
